Lyn Sermons was raised in a Christian home along with 5 other siblings. Rooted in Southern Gospel music at the early age of 7 years old, Lyn sang with her brother and sister as children all through elementary, junior high, and high school. She is no stranger to the stage or to Southern Gospel Music. She sang with another local quartet for several years until they disbanded in 2003 where she joined Tricia and Ray to make up New Journey Trio.
Lyn is married to her husband Stan and they have 5 children and 5 grandchildren. They live in Chesapeake, Virginia. They are active members of Immanuel Baptist Church in Chesapeake. Lyn has worked with the Awana program and choir since 1994. Stan serves as the Chairman of the Building Grounds Committee. Lyn works as a secretary and is a licensed insurance agent. Stan works for Virginia Power. Stan also travels with the group helping out with the equipment and the sound. Lyn feels honored and privileged that God has given her the gift to sing and she wants to use it to spread the message of Jesus Christ through song. Her desire is to see others lead to Christ through a song or testimony wherever God opens a door. To see people lifted up, encouraged and blessed, but most importantly that God be given all the glory. To put it in her words, “Singing is my passion and if it ain’t Southern Gospel, it ain’t music!"
Ray Bennett, accepting Christ at the age of eleven, was raised on the front pew of Southern Gospel Music. From an early age he enjoyed listening to the local groups in the area sing but never imagined that one day he would be doing the same. Ray and his wife Lorrie live in Suffolk, Virginia along with their three children, Colby, Joshua and Ashlynn. He enjoys spending time with his family. They attend Wilroy Baptist Church where Ray was ordained as a deacon. Ray is active in the church working with Bible School and singing in the choir. Ray and Lorrie are the owners of Ray’s Florist, Inc. located in Suffolk. Ray has done volunteer work with the March of Dimes and Relay for Life and has served on the Board of Directors for both.
Tricia Powers grew up around music all of her life. She has been singing since a young age. She loves singing and has had a passion for Southern Gospel music since she first heard the Happy Goodman Family many years ago. She always felt she was doing God’s will by singing in the church choir, but felt God calling her to do more. In 1997, God called her to use the talent that He had given her to go out and reach others for Christ and she has been traveling and singing wherever God will lead her ever since. She feels truly blessed to be able to go out and do what she loves to do and thanks God everyday for that privilege.
Tricia attends Wilroy Baptist Church where she grew up in. Her husband, Andy, is the Youth Pastor of the church. Tricia and Andy live in Suffolk, Virginia. They have one son, Andrew, who is married and he and his wife, Karen, live close by.
Tricia works at Olive Branch Elementary as the school secretary and bookkeeper. She loves working with children. She serves as the Children’s Ministry Coordinator at her church and works with the Awana Program as well as helping her husband with the youth program.
